CHAIRMAN’S REPORT- SEPTEMBER 2019
This month the focus has been on advertising and promoting our venue as a place to hire for all sorts of events – christenings, wakes, parties, wedding receptions, conferences and other special occasions. We had a great write up in the Nene Living magazine and together with leaflet drops and social media advertising we are beginning to get bookings. This will all help to keep our annual subscriptions costs down!
We have recently had 2 christenings, a wedding reception, a firm’s conference – all very successful events. Remember, if you as a member, book the facility or venue for any event – if you have food as well you get the venue for free. I have been asked by Helen Austen to ask you all if you know of any other groups who would use our venue for their meetings etc. We have an adult education class starting soon in the daytime, and we have had enquiries from a Thai Chi leader for a venue for her class.
You may be aware that Tracey has left us – she resigned a couple of weeks ago. We would like to thank her for getting the catering business off the ground. We now have Jemma Rout back as Bar Manager, with Claire taking on the role of Head Chef. Lesley has been given more hours and responsibility to develop the venue. Between them we now have a good team to take that aspect of the Club forward.
Richard Hankins (Premises Manager) has reported that the hard wiring inspection has been done and we have now been issued with an Electrical Installation Condition Report and Certificate.
The 4 security cameras have now been installed on the outside corners of the building.
The new speakers have now been put up in the lounge/bar and Cotton Room.
The white lining works will be carried out on the car park to smarten it up and install disabled parking spaces within the next 2 weeks.
UPDATE ON THE CLADDING
As you perhaps know, a small section of cladding was replaced with new fixing techniques on the side facing Oundle to test for the summer conditions. This is now deemed to be satisfactory and the plan is to replace all the rest of the cladding except the gable end, which is ok. This is scheduled to start week commencing 21st October.
REQUESTS FOR REFUNDS OF SUBSCRIPTIONS
May I remind you all that along with most other golf clubs we have a policy of no refunds on subscriptions paid - for any reason or in any circumstance.
Promotions. As I have already mentioned, Helen’s marketing of the venue is reaping rewards. The current membership promotions were finished at the end of September – that was the “15 for 12” deal and the “Join with Friends” deal. A new membership deal will be soon launched that will give more benefits for members rather than discounts.
New Membership rates for 2020. The main focus for the Commercial Committee will now be to develop new membership rates for 2020 that can be recommended to the Management Committee.
Sunday lunch is being advertised for Sunday 6th October- there are still some spaces left for after 2pm – but booking is necessary.
Christmas Party Nights – these are on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th December – you will have seen the advertisements around the Clubhouse and on Facebook perhaps. Booking is essential too for these so come along and celebrate with friends and enjoy a night out with food and entertainment. Recommend these parties to all your friends too – let’s get them fully booked!
Survey – The survey I mentioned in last months reports will be sent out soon but we had not realised that Sam’s Golf Professional Company would send out a survey of members and we did not want to overload you!
We are trying to keep our newly refurbished Clubhouse as nice as possible for as long as possible! So men members please observe the signs asking you to take off shoes before you go into your changing room from the outside door and please can everyone take shoes off before going in the main door. It would be better for all men to access their toilets from their outside door not the main door.
GOODBYE TO DAVE FOLEY
We finally said goodbye to Dave and Liz Foley last week after they successfully completed their house sale and began their move to Scotland at last. There will be a separate email coming out to give more details of why Dave was such a special member of Oundle Golf Club – his expertise and experience will be greatly missed.
CECIL LEITCH COUNTY COMPETITION
I cannot finish this report without mentioning the fantastic Ladies team who won the Cecil Leitch Shield for the second year running. They beat Wellingborough 7-0 in the quarter final at Delapre and beat Elton Furze 4-3 in the semi-final at Kingsthorpe. The thrilling climax to the Competition came when they were victorious over Kettering by 6 matches to 1 in the final at Overstone Park on Thursday 12th September. Well done to all who played throughout the summer, and to Pat Silburn who has been a fabulous CL Captain this year again.
